Application Engineer

Application Engineer – USA & Canada

 

Semperit America's is seeking an experienced Application Engineer to be responsible for Application Engineering, Consulting, Design and Improvement of Conveyor Belts globally but also with a focus on USA & Canada. Primary activity is to support the regional sales team and customers technically so as to promote the products from within the Semperit Portfolio.

 

Engineering:

  • Manage OEM-Projects as technical project leader from offer to installation
  • Support regional sales and its customers worldwide with product know-how
  • Technical design of conveyor belts and conveying systems
  • Calculate most efficient belt types and constructions
  • Support technical problem solving at customer sites
  • Develop and updates technical documentation like content of websites, calculation tools, presentations, flyers, technical specifications etc. for internal and external use
  • Provide supervision during start-up and/or maintenance of customer’s conveying systems.
  • Handle customer claims from technical point-of-view
  • Perform after sales inspections

 

Product Development:

  • Support the R&D Department to develop and design cost efficient belting applications based on customer specifications or through own development.
  • Act as a technical project manager, representing Sempertrans in external development projects
  • Improve existing technologies by reviewing procedures and adapting state-of-the-art materials and know-how to reduce costs, time and energy consumption
  • Manage trial and test phase of newly developed products

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably conveying technology.
  • Strong experience in the field of conveyor belts or conveyor systems for bulk materials handling
  • Valid passport for international travel and driver’s license for local travel must be maintained.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong technical know-how. Knowledge of applicable technical norms/standards.
  • Strong relationship building skills. A bias for action and detail-oriented behaviors are required.
  • Ability to collect data & information to make technical analysis & recommendations.
  • A high level of computer skills is essential – Excel, Word, Power Point, MS Teams.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work under stress and meet the deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, drive and performance orientation.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere but also comfortable with working independently.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-language atmosphere. Fluent verbal and written English and French is a must. Third language would be a plus.
  • Client skills including building and managing relationships, negotiation skills and understanding of customer needs.
  • Must be capable of effectively and accurately working on several projects at one time, and

organizing, prioritizing tasks and working in a fast paced environment.

  • Strong communication, co-operation, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis (~30 % to ~40 %)
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and

fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up objects

  • Use of keyboards, telephones, copiers, telefax, visits and movement through shops, and travel

experiences.
